Design & Plan for New Stamped Concrete Patio

In this project our crew starts with a wooden deck, planter boxes and a flagstone pathway. The homeowner had approached our crew and team about six months ago in March 2021. The homeowner wanted to repurpose this area and make it more usable. The wooden deck had become unsafe and was just unsightly.

The homeowner wanted to make use of the "planter box area". She had not really utilized the planter area and the sandbox. Her children had outgrown. The plan, tear out the existing wooden deck and planter boxes and replace with a stamped concrete patio.

In the image above, the crew has demolished the deck, sand box and planters and prepared the base for the new stamped concrete patio. In addition to preparing the base, the crew has already formed for the new patio and stamped concrete sidewalk.

The new stamped concrete patio will go from corner to corner of the home encompassing the entire back of the home. A new landing and steps will bring guests and company down to the patio safely.

Stamped Concrete Patio Color and Design Consultation

One of the most difficult aspects to installing decorative or stamped concrete is selecting the finish and color for the project. At least that seems to be the case when we ask our customers about the experience.

Denver Concrete Inc is committed to making this process as easy as possible. How do we do this? We offer a consultation with our color and design expert. We want to give our customers as much reference and solid information as possible. Educating our customers only leads to a more successful outcome in each and every project.

After consulting with our color consultant, the homeowner decided to stamp the entire patio with the "granite skin stamp". She selected color hardener for the border, in this case she chose "French gray" for the color hardener. As for the stamp on the border, the homeowner elected to use a smooth trowel border for the finish.

In this picture, the crew has recently finished the back patio. It has been colored using Brickform/Solomon's "Sandstone" integral color and stamped using the "Granite Skin Stamp" from Rocky Mountain Decorative Concrete line of stamp rentals

After the concrete patio is poured the crew prepares the sidewalk for the final pour for this project
In this project the crew poured the main patio first. Here in this image, the crew has completely prepared the base and forms for the new stamped concrete sidewalk. The sidewalk will not be bordered like the main patio.

Release Cuts

For this stamped concrete patio, the crew will be returning after the concrete has had at least 12 hours to set. In this case, the crew returned the following morning to make release cuts into the new stamped concrete patio and walkway.

Stamped Concrete Patio Final Color and Selant

Stamped concrete is a little different than regular concrete. In fact it is recommended that most stamped concrete patios are sealed with a polyurethane sealant. Additionally, once concrete is stamped and finished, it looks nothing like an organic hardscape. It is one color and really just looks one dimensional.

For this project, the homeowner wanted to achieve a more "organic" look and feel for their stamped concrete patio. So, with this in mind, our concrete expert recommended using "Antique-It" from Brickform/Solomon's line of release colors for stamped concrete. In this project the customer selected "French Gray" to match the colored border.
